KUZMA SERGEEVICH PETROV-VODKIN (1878-1939)
Painter, graphic artists, theorist, essayist. Studied at the classes of painting and drawing in Samara (1893-95) under F.Burov, at the Baron Stieglitz Central School for Technical Draftsmanship (1895-97), at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1897-1904) under N.Kasatkin and V.Serov, at A.Azbe's studio (1901) in Munich, in Paris (1905). Travelled in Italy, Greece, France, Africa. Participant of exhibitions from 1906 ("The Autumnal Salon", "The World of Art", "The Union of Russian Artists", "The Golden Fleece", "The Union of Youth", etc.). Taught at Ye.Zvantseva's school in St. Petersburg (1910-15), at "The Free Workshops" (1918-21) in Petrograd, at the Academy of Arts (1921-33), member of "The Four Arts" (from 1925). Author of literary works "Samarkandiya", "Khlynovsk", "The Space of Euclid". One of the largest Russian masters of the ÕÕth century.
