YULO ILMAR IOHANNESOVICH SOOSTER (1924-1970)
Painter, graphic artist. Studied at the Tartu State Art Institute (1945-1949). In 1949 arrested in Tallinn and accused of antisoviet activity. He served his time in the prison camp near Karaganda. In 1956 freed and rehabilitated, from 1957 permanently lives in Moscow. Participated in exhibitions from 1958 (the 4th exhibition of Moscow young artists). Worked at publishing house "Knowledge" (1959). Awarded a prize for the works displayed on the International art exhibition in Leipzig (1959). Exhibited his works abroad: in Poland, Italy (1965), Chechoslovakia (1968), Switzerland, Spain, Germany (1970). Personal exhibitions in Tallinn, Tartu (1970-1971), Moscow (1978, 1987, 1989), Washington (1978), Germany (1979). His works are kept in private collections in Russia and abroad, in museums of Stockholm, Tallinn, Tartu.
