Studied at the Drawing School of the Society for Promotion of Arts in St. Petersburg (1892-95), in the Parisian academies (1895-98). Academician of painting from 1913. From 1916 - active member of the Academy of Arts. Member of "The World of Art". His works are housed in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and many other museums.
