In the 30s—40s of the 19th century the French artist Duran was traveling in Russia. His sketches of landscapes of European Russia and the Caucasus were published in Paris as lithographical ouvrages. They were so popular that the edition was repeated. The originals were displayed at the Sotheby’s auction at the end of the 20th century.
