PYOTR PETROVICH VERESHCHAGIN (1834(6)-1886)
Born in Perm. Studied at the Academy of Arts in St.-Petersburg. Specialized in cityscape painting. Known for his views of St. Petersburg, old Russian towns and the Ural towns. The artist's works are housed in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, in the museums of Serpukhov, Perm, Ekaterinburg, Baku. While imaging the reciding into the distance panorama of the river Pskova with the old fortress walls extending along the river bank, and the domes of the whiting in the depth Trinity Cathedral - the artist sticks to the traditions of Russian view painting of the middle 19th century combining devotion to immediate impressions of the nature with intention to elevate the imaged motive . One more view of Pskov executed by the artist in the same years, is kept in the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery.
